My basis to counseling is to be a present, nonjudgmental, and empathetic being for clients to have alongside their mental health journey. This basis is essential in maintaining a genuine and trustworthy connection with each client at hand. I have worked with individuals of all ages mainly dealing with developmental disorders and mood disorders, and one of the most common underlying themes found with every client is the need to feel safe, heard, and acknowledged. This simple yet profound significance is in human nature. We all at our core want a sense of belonging, and feeling heard is the first step in gaining it. I want to be present for every client to allow them to safely take that first step in their journey.
I like to stay client-centered in practicing CBT so clients can set the pace per their level of comfortability while encouraging thought challenge. I am here for the “weird”, unconventional, nontraditional components of expressing your true self and unveiling the power behind it, sometimes with different creative, artistic, or narrative modalities. This experiential aspect to therapy can help ease into processing stressful events to better understand what they mean to you.
Some other CBT modalities I like to incorporate often to find a basis to current functioning and help become more comfortable with the uncomfortable include DBT and mindfulness skills, ACT skills, solution focused, and motivational interviewing. I find these therapeutic modalities to often be helpful for dealing with issues of grief & loss, depression & anxiety, complex trauma, identity formation/exploration, self-esteem, overall social skills, and interpersonal relation maintenance. I have a passion for empowering these issues particularly with middle childhood youth and young adults, as well as those with developmental disorders, and those in the LGBTQIA+ community. Please reach out if I could be a present being alongside your journey!
