Recognizing International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is recognized around the world to promote gender equality and advocate for the rights, safety, and well-being of women and girls.
While progress has been made, global data reminds us why this day still matters:
- Women hold only about 10% of head-of-state positions worldwide
- On average, women earn 20% less than men
- 1 in 3 women experience physical or sexual violence
- Hundreds of women die each day from preventable pregnancy- and childbirth-related complications
International Women’s Day also has a long history rooted in grassroots movements, labor rights, and women advocating for social, political, and health equity. It serves as both a celebration of progress and a call to continue the work.
Supporting women’s health, safety, and access to care is essential to building stronger families and communities everywhere.
