I work to empower my clients to identify ways in which they would like to change how they are experiencing their lives, and ultimately create a dynamic in their lives that they enjoy. Sometimes we act in ways that make our lives a little more difficult. Sometimes we act in ways that make our lives a little more meaningful and significant. My goal is to help you discover what is important to you, what gives you energy and enthusiasm, what truly makes life feel good, and help you align your thoughts and actions with those values.
Each person is the expert of their own lives, with awareness and knowledge of their own needs. I believe you know what is best for you, through your awareness of your desires, frustrations, emotions… etc. I approach each person with positive acceptance of their current experience and a non-judgemental stance. It is with an awareness of psychology, and experience evoking needs and values that may have been ignored for a long time that I can help you alter who you are being in terms of what you are doing and thinking to create a life experience that meets your needs and aligns with your values.
I approach my work through the lens of attachment theory, developmental psychology, somatic techniques, and cognitive behavioral therapy strategies, and person-centered therapy. Person centered therapy is my foundation. I strive to understand your current experience, and to hold you and your current experience in a positive light. Layered on top of that I have found it extremely helpful to understand how each person forms relationships, and how they have developed throughout their life. Throughout development, events may have occurred that impact functioning. Some of these are larger traumas. Some of them are smaller traumas. Some of them occurred for such a long time they may have become part of your normal. Processing those either through your body, or by changing what you are think or what you are doing are some of my first approaches to giving you back the functionality to freely, and consciously choose the circumstances with which you surround yourself, and the internal states within which you live.
I have experience working with ages 9 – late 60s. I have worked both in day treatment and outpatient environments. I am a generalist, but I have a lot of experience working with developmental trauma, anxiety, depression, trauma, and experiences with chronic stress.
I have worked with clients from various racial and ethnic backgrounds, as well as those identifying as LBGTQ+.
