“There are three musts that hold us back: I must do well, you must treat me well, and the world must be easy.”-Albert Ellis
We all have adversities from childhood that shape who we become as a person. We believe the world should look like what we believe is true. In my counseling philosophy, I see a million individual “worlds” that no matter how similar we are, we will never experience the same thoughts, feelings, or act in the same way someone else would. We can understand similarities in each of us, but every individual brain has it’s own neuropathways that carry differently in each of us. If we don’t recognize that “my life” is mine, we become disturbed with ourselves and the way life is treating us. If we were to recognize that our beliefs and patterns have shaped us through adversities we are more likely to become happier and healthier with the way our life is. And if we don’t like past experiences or the adversities given to us by our families, we are the only person who can shape, view, and understand other perspectives.
