When you can’t see straight ahead, it’s because you’re about to turn a corner. -Myrtle Reed
I’m Katelynn Shimanski (she/her/hers), a doctoral student pursuing my clinical psychology degree. I’m dedicated to supporting adults with a variety of different needs, including depression, anxiety, grief/loss, life transitions, and trauma recovery. Additionally, I’m passionate about working with older adults experiencing cognitive decline and impairment, including Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. In my therapeutic approach, I prioritize client-centered care, recognizing that each individual’s journey is unique. I draw from evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I believe strongly in the importance of considering each client’s individual needs, beliefs, and values when developing a treatment plan. In doing so, I hope to create a therapeutic environment where clients feel understood, respected, and empowered to work towards their goals. When I’m not in the office, you can often find me exploring the great outdoors. I’m an avid visitor of state and national parks and take pride in my growing collection of National Park Service passport stamps. I also enjoy immersing myself in culture and history through visits to art and history museums. In quieter moments, I love to unwind with a good book.
