A core aspect of counseling is an “unconditional positive regard” for the client, which involves accepting clients as they are, for who they are, in a way that does not need to be earned. This concept has inspired me throughout my education and training as a counselor to be open-minded and compassionate for all clients. My professional and volunteer experiences have led me to encounter depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, and developmental disabilities in teenagers and young adults. My role involves teaming up with individuals working toward their personal goals using an integrative approach of theory and practice, specifically CBT, DBT, and narrative therapy. While I am thrilled to continue working with young people, I would also like to direct my services toward adults. I especially hope to give back to my community by serving the first responder population (police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and all emergency personnel).
