Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” – Maya Angelou
Hello and welcome! My name is Kari Duong-Topp. I pronounce my name “Care-ee Young-Top.” I use she/her pronouns. I hope that this brief description will give you some idea about my experience and approach as you make this important decision. Rest assured, if you meet with me and find that I am not a good fit, I will support you to find what you are looking for.
I work primarily with adults – any human person from ages 18 to over 80 and beyond. I have experience in seeing people who were experiencing challenges of anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, grief and loss, life-transitions, (too much) stress, substance use, and the effects of trauma. People have said that I am warm, compassionate, collaborative, respectful, and knowledgeable. I strive to show compassion, curiosity, acceptance, and humility in all my interactions, because we all have a variety of experiences – culture, race, gender, sexuality, religious/spiritual beliefs, abilities. I am comfortable with incorporating your faith and spirituality in therapy to the degree that you prefer.
The work that I do is informed by and can include Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Interpersonal Therapy, and Somatic and Attachment Focused Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (S.A.F.E. EMDR). I grew up in rural Minnesota. I earned my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Fuller School of Psychology in Pasadena, California. Fuller specializes in training psychologists by integrating quality Clinical Psychology (they are accredited by the American Psychological Association) and Christian Theology/Spirituality. In addition to providing psychotherapy services, I also provide supervision for practitioners and clinical trainees. In my free time, I love socializing, traveling, learning, and wellness activities for body, mind and spirit.
