I began on my path as a therapist because I wanted to help people face the challenges of life that sometimes seem overwhelming and to help people feel ownership over the lives that they live. In today’s world, it can feel like things are out of our control when life confronts us with big challenges. And for many people, the first step in meeting these challenges is simply to feel that they are accepted and understood. My approach to counseling is primarily built around Carl Roger’s model of Person-Centered Therapy, with elements of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (and other approaches) mixed in to help develop more structured ways of responding to problems. Above all, my focus in counseling is on developing a productive and supportive therapeutic relationship with you. I believe that helping a person to develop self-efficacy, the belief in one’s own ability to overcome challenges is the best way to set someone up for lifelong success.
I work with adults and couples of all ages on issues surrounding life transitions, depression, anxiety, trauma, assertiveness, and identity development. My favorite kind of work to do in therapy is helping someone to find a clearer sense of who they are, and to feel comfortable living in their own identity.
I hold my Master’s in Counseling Psychology from the University of St. Thomas and am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). Some of my favorite things to do are watching movies (both good ones and bad ones), working on creative projects, and writing website biographies about myself.
