Life can be messy and challenging, and we find ways to cope and move forward. At some point, these methods of coping may no longer feel as though they are serving you. Walking alongside you as you discover your next steps is an honor I do not take lightly. Everyone’s journey and story is different, and I trust that you are the expert in yours. In sessions, I hope to work together to create a space in which you feel safe to explore, learn, and practice ways of being that may feel new and unfamiliar.
I received my bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Northwestern – St. Paul and my master’s degree in social work from the University of St. Thomas. Professionally, I have spent time in day treatment, outpatient, long-term care, and nonprofit settings, working with individuals across the lifespan. I currently work with individuals ages 6+ and enjoy supporting clients through a variety of different experiences. I have completed training in inference-based cognitive behavioral therapy (I-CBT) for OCD and have previous experience working with individuals who have experienced trauma as well as those impacted by foster care or adoption. I also enjoy supporting those navigating grief, substance use and recovery, relationship difficulties, mood concerns, life transitions, self-exploration, and self-esteem.
I understand my role as a therapist through the lens of intersubjective psychotherapy, recognizing the therapeutic relationship as the foundation for much of the therapeutic process. I believe empathy, honesty, and openness are key to this important relationship. Therapeutically, I often pull from approaches including person-centered therapy, solution-focused therapy (SFT), motivational interviewing (MI), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and radically-open dialectical behavior therapy (RO-DBT). In session, I will encourage you to take the lead, and we will adapt to what you or your child find most helpful, whether that be talking, processing through play, worksheets, or art.
When I am not at work, I enjoy reading, spending time outside, and exploring coffee shops and dog parks with my puppy!
