CARE for my Child

It’s difficult for children to communicate how they feel, and it can be difficult as the adult in their life to understand or know what to do to help them. If you find that you or your children are struggling with any of the following, it is time to reach out to us at CARE Counseling and we will find the right therapist for you.

CARE for my child.

What happens in the first several sessions?

If your child is:
Under the age of 12, the first appointment will be with you alone as the parent(s)
12-15: We encourage the first session to be with just you as the parent(s). If you would really like your child to be apart of the process please be aware that your child will only be part of some of the session.
16-18: It is best you as the parent(s) and your teen are present for the first session.

The clinician is trying to gather information. You’ll be asked some basic questions so that your clinician can get to know you and find out what you’d like for your child to get out of therapy. You may find it helpful to share things about your current challenges, past experiences, or important aspects of your families identity. In the second and third sessions, the clinician will help make a “road map” with your child which is a plan with goals or topics that you’d like to focus on in therapy.
