What NAMI does
Being a non-profit NAMI relies on gifts and contributions to support their important work. Some important work that they do includes education. NAMI offers education programs to individuals, families, and educators to thousands of communities across the United States to provide everyone with the support and information that they need. NAMI helps to shape national public policy by advocating for people with mental illness. NAMI also offers a toll-free HelpLine which allows them to respond to thousands of requests each year providing free information and support. NAMI also is involved in many public awareness events and activities throughout the year including Mental Illness Awareness Week and NAMIWalks. Each event works to successfully fight stigma and encourage understanding.
