Child and Adolescent Academic Concerns

In therapy at CARE Counseling, your child or adolescent may work to process stress, develop routines, and learn tools to address the root of the concern.

We can help.

Struggling in class, not completing homework, and having difficulties making friends are natural school-related concerns that most children and adolescents face, but if your child is constantly facing the same issues, it may be worth talking to a counselor about your concerns. If you believe your child’s struggles may get in the way of their social, academic, physical, or other activities, it may indicate that their concerns require additional attention. Academic concerns are closely related to the mental health of children. According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services, 21% of children and adolescents have a diagnosable mental health condition, but only about 20% of these children are diagnosed and treated. The added stress of academic struggles can exacerbate anxious and depressive symptoms in children. Counseling can help your child or adolescent with these mental health concerns, plus learning difficulties, behavioral concerns, school refusal, and life transitions that may impact their academic life.
