Smiles and greetings! My name is Aliyah, and I am so glad you are here.
Seeking therapy can be an intimidating and overwhelming task. Whether you are taking baby steps or great strides in your path to healing, the biggest thing to remember: you’re still moving forward! I offer an environment that is warm, welcoming, and accommodating to you or your child’s needs. When working with me, you are entering a non-judgmental and culturally-respectful space. There is a place for everyone in therapy–I pride myself on being a provider of color and an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community. I will be here to support you during the hard times, and celebrate with you in moments of success!
My goal as a child-focused therapist is to guide you and your child through the “big feelings” of life. Play is a child’s most natural form of self-expression, so why wouldn’t it be used in therapy! Through different models of play-based therapy, I will work on navigating behaviors, processing events, developing skills, and building emotional readiness. All of these skills are necessary in promoting success through each developmental milestone.
While my background is mainly geared toward working with children, I am equipped to work with adults too. My treatment style is person-centered; you know yourself best! Together we will discover personalized coping strategies, develop treatment and individual goals, and have an open dialogue about your daily stressors or concerns.
I have experience with ADHD, ASD, Adjustment Disorders, Anxiety, Depression, Developmental Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, impulse control, trauma, social skills, self-injurious behaviors, and suicidal ideation. I attended MSU-Moorhead for my undergraduate degrees, in which I received a BA in Psychology and a Bachelor’s in Social Work. Currently, I am working towards my Masters in Clinical Psychology at Minnesota State University Mankato. I have held previous jobs in the mental health field, such as: working with children at Fraser, as a Social Work intern in District 287, and as an MHP working with children in the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community. Currently, I am working as a pre-degree psychotherapy intern.
I look forward to the continued opportunity to work with children and adults from various walks of life!
