Intelligence (IQ) Testing
CARE Counseling provides intelligence testing for children ages 6 to 16, providing full scale composite and general intelligence quotient (IQ).
CARE Counseling offers cognitive assessments also known as, Intelligence Testing (IQ test), to assist in determining a child’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses. This service can also assist in screening for intellectual giftedness. IQ Testing is an out-of-pocket expense, meaning, insurance is not involved in this process and there is no need to worry about your child being diagnosed. This test provides an opportunity to explore your child’s cognitive functioning from a strength-based approach without a label. When your child’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses are known, it can be easier to support your child’s overall development and academic success and advocate for their needs.
IQ testing is used to determine what you are capable of.
Assessment Process
You will meet with a licensed clinical psychologist who will conduct the testing and interpret the results. Your child will go through a series of tasks that are new to them. Children tend to feel a little tired after testing, as the process is assessing their brain’s capacity to solve various problems. The testing takes place in our Edina office and will take approximately 2 hours. At the end of the appointment, you will receive your child’s cognitive scores and discuss areas of strength and weakness with the clinician.
Areas Assessed Include:
Verbal Comprehension: The ability to use a range of vocabulary to understand and express general knowledge and solve language-based problems.
Visual Spatial: The ability to evaluate visual details and understand visual spatial relationships.
Fluid Reasoning: The ability to use conceptual information from visual details and apply that knowledge.
Working Memory: The ability to learn, manipulate, and retain information to complete new tasks.
Processing Speed: The ability to quickly process and make judgements about visual information.
